Digitisation Quality and McKenzie AI
iMemories markets its service as digital restoration and now offers optional McKenzie AI enhancement. The provider says this processing improves clarity, colour, sharpness and playback, and claims up to three times the visual clarity. Pixoneye has not independently verified that claim on matched source media.
Enhancement can make old footage look cleaner on a modern display, but it cannot recover genuine image information that was never captured by the original VHS tape, small film frame or faded print. AI can also alter texture and introduce processed detail. Preserve the standard digital master as well as any enhanced version.
The larger limitation is disclosure. iMemories does not clearly publish the native scan resolution, bitrate, colour depth or complete archival file-format choices for each medium on its main pricing and FAQ pages. Its free downloadable digital masters are convenient, but buyers needing a documented 2K film scan, TIFF photo files, ProRes video or specialist sound synchronisation should obtain written specifications or choose a specialist provider.
Check the beginning and end of every video, audio sync, missing sections, orientation and image quality before treating the transfer as complete. Keep the original media as well as independent digital copies. A useful quality review compares the transfer with the available source, not just with modern high-definition footage.
iMemories App, Cloud and Downloads
The app is one of the strongest reasons to choose iMemories. It supports viewing, organising, downloading and sharing digitised videos and photos from phones, tablets, browsers and supported television platforms. A customer can send a private link to one file or an album rather than passing around a physical drive.
The app itself is free, but continuing unlimited Cloud viewing, sharing, storage and backup is not. Every digitisation order currently includes a 30-day iMemories Cloud trial. After that, the published subscription is $7.99 per month or $49.99 per year.
Cloud subscriptions can be cancelled through the web account or the relevant app-store subscription settings. Under the current terms, cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle; processed payments and pending charges are not refunded simply because the subscription is cancelled.
Turnaround and Return of Originals
iMemories currently gives several distinct timing stages:
- Inventory and quote: normally five to seven days after the order arrives.
- Online digital files: currently estimated about one week after approval and payment.
- USB or discs: currently shipped by UPS Ground within three to five days after approval and payment.
- Original media: the turnaround page says originals are shipped back within four weeks after digitisation; shipping time is additional.
These are provider estimates, not delivery guarantees. The FAQ mentions allowing one week for return of originals after processing, while the dedicated turnaround page allows up to four weeks after digitisation. Obtain your order-specific timing rather than treating either figure as a universal deadline. Quantity, media format, damage, enhancement work, shipping and seasonal demand can extend the total. Do not use a standard order for a fixed-date gift without checking the order-specific deadline.
iMemories says it returns originals after conversion. Mailing unique media still involves transit and handling risk; its terms explain the shipping conditions. Photograph your inventory and retain tracking details. For exceptionally valuable originals, compare a local handoff or specialist arrangement before posting the only copy.
Privacy and Security
The SafeShip Kit includes protective packaging and tracked transport to the processing facility. Online media is placed in an account from which customers can download files, share selected content and remove individual memories. The privacy policy also provides a process for requesting full account deletion by email; it says videos, photos and account details will then be erased.
The current iMemories terms state that the service is offered to adults residing in the United States or its territories. Buyers elsewhere should use a provider that officially accepts orders from their location.
Claims that unauthorised access is almost impossible, that multiple encryption layers protect every file or that personal information is never shared would go further than the current public policy supports. Use a unique account password, share links selectively, download local copies and request deletion when the account is no longer needed.
