Publisher, Editor-in-Chief and Lead Product Reviewer at Pixoneye
Stuart Kerr Spindlow owns and operates Pixoneye, an independent consumer-product and personal-media preservation publication. He leads its editorial direction, tests products and takes responsibility for its buying recommendations, review standards and corrections.
What I review
My focus is practical consumer technology: gadgets for the home, travel and everyday use, alongside tools for preserving personal photos, videos, audio and family memories. Personal-media coverage includes scanners, film converters, storage and backup devices, digital frames and relevant digitisation, restoration and printing services.
Hands-on experience and independent judgement
I test the products I review. My aim is to explain what they are like to use, which limitations matter and whether they are a sensible choice for a particular buyer. A useful review should help you make a decision that a specification list alone cannot answer.
Product experience, measurements, manufacturer claims and editorial judgement serve different purposes. Each review should make clear which findings come from my use and which facts come from external sources. Testing one version or feature does not establish how every version performs, and ordinary use cannot prove medical benefits, safety certification or long-term durability.
What I look for beyond the specifications
I focus on practical differences that can change a buying decision: setup friction, everyday usability, limitations, total ownership costs, compatibility and who would be better served by an alternative. Where I have compared products directly, I explain the trade-off behind my preference.
Editorial responsibility
As Editor-in-Chief, I am responsible for the standards applied to Pixoneye’s reviews, comparisons, buyer guides and supporting articles. Contributors may assist with research, drafting and updates; author, reviewer and tester credits should reflect the work each person performed.
Affiliate commissions help fund the publication. They do not determine product scores, rankings or conclusions. Material commercial relationships should be disclosed, and criticism should not be removed to satisfy a commercial partner.
